Two Men Arrested for Carjacking, Robbery Near Downtown Silver Spring; Third Suspect Still At Large

Montgomery County Police have arrested and charged 19-year-old Ruben Ramirez of Laurel and 20-year-old Darrell Alvin Brown of Germantown for an armed carjacking and robbery early Tuesday morning.

According to an MCPD press release, officers from the 2nd District responded around 2 a.m. on Tuesday to the 1900 block of East-West Highway following a report of an armed carjacking.

The county’s Major Crimes Division investigation found that a male victim was walking to his apartment after parking his car when three unidentified men approached him. One of the suspects displayed a handgun and demanded the victim’s car keys, which the victim handed over. The other two suspects then demanded the victim’s phone. After complying, the victim ran to his apartment and called the police.

The suspects, described as one Hispanic male and two Black males, then took the victim’s 2021 Toyota Camry and fled the scene, MCPD said.

On Wednesday, the victim’s car and two of the suspects, identified as Ramirez and Brown, were found. They were arrested without incident, and a Glock handgun was discovered near the front passenger seat at the time of the arrest.

Ramirez and Brown were taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and have been charged with armed robbery, armed carjacking, assault, and multiple counts of theft and firearm-related offenses.

Both Ramirez and Brown are currently being held without bond while detectives continue to search for the third suspect.
