Mid-July Opening for Fantasticks Gelato Shop in Downtown Silver Spring

Custom gelato shop Fantasticks is scheduled to open in Downtown Silver Spring on the weekend of July 13.

Owner Kishan Bikki told MoCo360 on Wednesday that the business is completing the store decorations at the former Starbucks location at 915 Ellsworth Drive. Starbucks closed at the end of March when the coffee chain’s lease expired and was not renewed.

Fantasticks, which first opened in 2019 in Frederick and at One Loudoun in Virginia, offers gelato bars and fruit popsicles for $5 each. Three different toppings can be added for 75 cents each, and chocolate dip is available for an extra $1. According to MoCo360, approximately half of the flavors are vegan and non-dairy.

Small cups of gelato with one to two flavors are also offered for $6, or the regular size with two to three flavors is offered for $7.25.

The Downtown Silver Spring location will be the second Fantasticks in Montgomery County and the fourth in the region, joining Rio Lakefront in Gaithersburg, The Crossing Clarendon in Arlington, Va., and the original One Loudoun location.

Fantasticks is the first of two new dessert shops set to open in Silver Spring’s Central Business District. Lil’ Sumthin’ Sweet, which will offer soft serve ice cream, cakes, pies, coffee, and more, is preparing to open in the former Smoothie King location at 8563 Fenton St.; a specific opening date has yet to be announced.
