Montgomery County Police Seek Six Suspects in Downtown Silver Spring Assaults

Montgomery County Police are seeking help in identifying six suspects caught on surveillance video as they assaulted four homeless individuals at Veterans Plaza in downtown Silver Spring on July 16.

Around 4:43 a.m., according to a police press release, a dark-colored Honda Civic pulled over near Ellsworth Dr. and Fenton St. A group of five unidentified Black male suspects and one unidentified Black female suspect exited the vehicle and approached the victims, who were sleeping. One of the suspects punched the female victim while she was asleep at a table. When she tried to call the police, another suspect grabbed and broke her phone. (video below)

Two male victims were sleeping on a bench when the suspects were approached and assaulted. The suspects chased the third male victim on Ellsworth Dr. toward Georgia Ave. but eventually stopped. 

Two of the four victims were taken to a local hospital to receive treatment for their injuries, police said.

Police provided descriptions of the suspects as follows:

  • The first suspect is a Black male wearing a black ski mask, a grey shirt, jeans, and white and grey sneakers.
  • The second suspect is a Black male with short locs wearing a grey shirt with white writing, black pants, and black shoes.
  • The third suspect is a Black male wearing a black hat, a white t-shirt, pants, light-colored shoes, and a black crossbody bag.
  • The fourth suspect is a Black male wearing a black tank top, black pants, and black and yellow sneakers.
  • The fifth suspect is a Black male dressed in all black.
  • The sixth suspect is a Black female wearing a black short-sleeved T-shirt, black pants, and white shoes.

Police ask anyone with information to contact the Crime Solvers of Montgomery County at crimesolversmcmd.org or (866) 411-8477. All tips can be provided anonymously, and information that leads to an arrest may qualify for a reward of up to $10,000.
