The county’s Department of Health and Human Services closed two more Georgia Avenue businesses in Silver Spring for failing to comply with COVID-19 restrictions, officials announced today.
Society Lounge at 8229 Georgia Ave. and Republic Garden at 8402 Georgia were both shut down on Sunday July 12, both for not maintaining social distancing.
In addition, both businesses had their licenses suspended. Each business must now submit a written plan detailing how the requirements of Executive Order 082-20 will be met. HHS then must approve the plans before they can reopen.
Last week, the department closed the Palisades Lounge at 8211 Georgia Ave. for not maintaining appropriate physical distancing of customers. In addition, the lounge was cited for a liquor violation.
Nearby, the Cabana Hookah Lounge at 8227 Georgia Ave. also was closed. Hookah lounges are not permitted to operate as part of the county’s Phase 2 reopening.
Palisades Lounge has since reopened.
In recent weeks, the county has sent business ambassadors and inspectors to more that 1,900 local businesses to provide information about complying with the executive order, and to ensure businesses were doing so.
