We have learned there is a delay opening Bonjour.
A new food truck is launching operations this weekend at 8600 Colesville Rd. in downtown Silver Spring.
Bonjour Waffles, owned and operated by Irene Kinyoki-Adjeb, will serve authentic Belgian waffles, crêpes and Liège waffles.
This is Kinyoki-Adjeb’s first venture into the world of food trucks, buying her truck in March.
“I took some [cooking] classes when I was in Europe,” she said. “I lived in Europe for six months before I moved to the United States.”
There’s a difference between the traditional (and more familiar) Belgian, or Brussels, waffle, and Liège waffles.
“The Liège waffle is a waffle that has pearl sugar inside,” Kinyoki-Adjeb explained, with a different texture than a Belgian waffle.
“There will be all kinds of toppings [for her products],” she added. “We have fresh fruit, we have chocolate—we have a whole list.”
The list includes Nutella, coconut flakes, a caramel banana topping, ice cream, walnuts, maple syrup and more (see menu below).
Once the grand opening is over, she’ll operate Monday through Saturday and closed on Sundays. She plans to be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and until 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
