Guitar Center Closing Ellsworth Place Location

Guitar Center will close its location at Ellsworth Place on January 3, according to a statement from a company representative.

“As part of our ongoing business processes and after careful consideration, Guitar Center has made the decision to close our retail store in Silver Spring, MD, effective January 3rd,” the statement reads. “Silver Spring customers can find help and support at any of our greater Baltimore and Washington D.C. area stores or through our website at GuitarCenter.com. All area stores will accept returns and support customer purchases. In addition to our great musical retail selection, all our locations will continue to offer rental gear, repairs and lessons in support of the music community in the area.”

The announcement comes after the company this week announced the completion of its fast-track reorganization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. The reorganization plan, which was confirmed on December 17, eliminated nearly $800 million of debt and added $165 million of new equity funding to its balance sheet.

The company’s Ellsworth Place location opened in 2017. The Silver Spring store was the fifth in the D.C. market and number 282 in the U.S.
