Available Storefronts in Visible Locations Drawing Attention from Potential Tenants

Several highly visible storefronts in Silver Spring have come on the market in recent months and attracted attention from potential business operators.

One location, 8203 Georgia Ave., will have a new tenant, according to the Long & Foster leasing agent handling the property.

The new business operator signed a lease about four weeks ago and will open a tobacco shop.

The space formerly held a short-lived wig shop and before that was home of a Hertz office for a number of years. The new tenant wasn’t available for comments and the Source will update this story when we have new information.

Up the street in the same block at 8223 Georgia Ave., the one-time location of The Big Greek Café, which moved to 8213 Georgia, has attracted a number of possible tenants.

“I’m surprised in the [amount of] interest in it,” said Rusty Morgan of Morgan/McLean Commercial Real Estate LLC.

One of the most recent spaces to become available is the former GameStop store in Four Corners at the intersection of southbound Colesville Road and westbound University Boulevard.

“We are getting close on a deal,” said Todd Malamut, principal with NREB, a commercial real estate firm. “I cannot say yet who it is.”

The store began a closeout sale a few weeks ago and shut down last week. The company has closed several hundred stores in the last year and its stock has been the subject of recent wild Reddit-fueled market swings.
