Montgomery County will maintain its current pandemic restrictions despite Gov. Larry Hogan (R) announcing yesterday, April 28, that he would lift the state’s outdoor mask mandate and restrictions on outdoor dining as of Saturday, May 1.
In a joint statement released late last night, Councy Executive Marc Elrich and the County Council said, “Just [Tuesday] the Council, acting as the Board of Health, approved a new public health regulation that provided further phased reopenings tied to COVID-19 vaccination percentages. This regulation, which was developed with Montgomery County’s public health team, remains in place and is unaffected by Gov. Hogan’s latest executive order.
“We learned of Gov. Hogan’s order when it was announced publicly so our staff are reviewing the state order to determine any potential impacts on the Board of Health regulation,” the statement continued.
The latest regulation adopted the guidance issued by either the Centers for Disease Control or the state, whichever is stricter.
Earlier this week, the CDC announced, “Fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask outdoors, except in certain crowded settings and venues.”
