Montgomery Parks is marking National Selfie Day today by announcing that staff has placed new selfie stands in 13 different parks around the county.
The stands are wooden and include ledges at two different heights where park visitors can place their phones for individual or group shots.
The locations were chosen both for scenic views and to show the diversity of landscapes around the park system.
“While there is no shortage of beautiful scenery throughout our 400 parks, we decided to highlight some particularly breathtaking spots. We hope visitors will enjoy exploring these areas and we wanted to make it easier for them to capture the perfect selfie to remember their experience, and to share with friends,” Kirsten Hein, parks activation manager, said in the press release.
Locally, Burnt Mills West Special Park at 10701 Columbia Pike (Route 29), with its trails along the Northwest Branch, is included in the program and has four selfie stands.

- Dickerson Conservation Park
- Lake Needwood at Rock Creek Regional Park
- Little Bennett Regional Park
- McCrillis Gardens
- Meadowside Nature Center
- Rachel Carson Conservation Park
- Tilden Woods Stream Valley Park
- Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park
- Woodstock Equestrian Special Park

Selfie takers have a chance to see their shots featured on Montgomery Parks social media accounts by tagging @MontgomeryParks on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and use “#ShowUsYourParkie,” or uploading the photo(s) on the selfie stands web page.
