County Looking for Volunteers to Assist with Thanksgiving Parade

The county is looking for volunteers to assist with various aspects of the Thanksgiving Parade, which returns this year on Saturday, Nov. 20 in downtown Silver Spring, officials announced.

These volunteers would not be marching units in the parade, but rather would participate costumed as snowmen, nutcrackers or penguins (often on floats), or handle large balloons. Volunteers must be at least 13 years old.

“This year our need for adult volunteers is particularly high, as the parade normally has many student volunteers,” according to a press release. “Our volunteer numbers have the potential to be lower due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The parade itself starts at 10 a.m., but all volunteers would need to be present from 7:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.

More information about volunteering is online, or residents can call MC311 at 3-1-1 (or 240.777.0311 if outside the county) Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.–7 p.m.
