Police Investigating Downtown Silver Spring Bank Robbery

Montgomery County Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect in a December 21 robbery of a Capital One Bank in downtown Silver Spring.

“Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating a December 21, 2021 bank robbery in the 8300 block of Georgia Ave. in downtown Silver Spring,” reads an MCPD news release. “Detectives have released surveillance photos of the male suspect and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him.

“At approximately 2:49 p.m., 3rd District Officers responded to the location for the report of a bank robbery that just occurred.

“The investigation by detectives determined that the suspect entered the Capital One Bank, approached a teller and produced a note where he demanded money. The teller handed over the undisclosed amount of money to the suspect who then exited the bank and fled the scene. During this incident, the suspect did not display or suggest a weapon, and no one was injured.

“Detectives reviewed the surveillance footage of the bank and obtained surveillance photographs of the suspect.

“The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 5-feet, 7-inches tall, in his early twenties, wearing a black puffy jacket, a white knit cap, gray sweatpants and red/white Jordan sneakers.

“Anyone with information regarding this suspect or this crime is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070 or 240-773-TIPS, or contact Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect. Callers can remain anonymous.”
