Board of Elections Seeking Election Workers

The county’s Board of Elections is seeking registered voters to serve as election workers at polling places for the 2022 Gubernatorial Primary Election to be held on June 28, according to an announcement on the county’s blog.

Several full-day and part-day positions are available, and voters fluent in multiple languages are encouraged to apply. However, voters fluent in both English and Spanish are especially needed in each polling place to meet the requirements of Section 203 of the 1975 Voting Rights Act, which stipulates that bilingual Spanish speakers be available at the polling places, the Board of Elections said in the announcement.

Students 16 or older are eligible to register to vote and serve as election workers, provided that they demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Maryland State Board of Elections that they meet all qualifications for registration in the State. In addition, students serving as election workers may choose to earn up to 25 Student Service Learning (SSL) credits instead of the stipend.

Training, which is provided and required of all election workers, includes an online quiz, virtual training, and in-person classroom training. Volunteers will be paid for completing training and working the election.

To apply, text SERVE to 77788 or visit the Election Workers section at www.777vote.org. More information also can be obtained by email at [email protected] or by calling the Election Worker line at 240-777-8533.
