Takoma Park to Hold Information Session, Caucus for City Office Candidates

The City of Takoma Park will hold an informational meeting for those interested in running for city office in the November election, according to the Takoma Insider newsletter.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. via Zoom, and a link to the session will be published on the candidate information page.

There will be a caucus of Takoma Park voters to accept nominations for mayor and city councilmembers on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Center Auditorium at 7500 Maple Ave.

Nominations for candidates can be made by any qualified city voter and, if seconded by another voter, be considered nominated and their name eligible to be placed on the November ballot. Candidates may nominate themselves, or second their nomination, but not both.

Any nominated candidate can turn down the nomination, but can only accept nomination for one office.

A candidate who intends to turn down a nomination must do so in writing to the City Clerk within three days. Any candidate who fails to file a timely candidate’s financial disclosure statement, as required by the City of Takoma Park Public Ethics Ordinance and due by Sept. 19, will not appear on the ballot.

The Nov. 8 election will be held by mail and ballots should be out by mid-October. Absentee ballots can be requested online.
