Silver Spring-based Improbable Comedy will mark 10 years of producing comedy shows in the area with a three-day festival of productions Sept. 15–17 billed as “SPRUNG!”
“Our goal when we held our first show at Vicino’s in 2011 was to bring high-quality comedy much closer to Silver Spring,” said founder and producer Kim Levone. “For ‘SPRUNG!’, we’re continuing in the same tradition; bringing high-quality comedy shows to audiences in Silver Spring.
“Over the course of these last 10 years, I didn’t know Improbable Comedy would become influential in the systemic change in our local comedy scene,” she added, referring to the company’s promotion of women, people of color, immigrants, members of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as comedy programming that focuses on mental health.
“Every lineup is carefully thought out, balancing the diversity of the audience and the performer’s background, a common theme in Improbable Comedy shows,” she said.
The shows will be at the Black Box Theatre, 8641 Colesville Rd.; for all three nights, doors open at 7 p.m., and shows start at 8 p.m. The lineup is:
- Sept. 15, “Comedy as a Second Language,” headlined by Rahmein Mostafavi (from Iran), with Rallo Boykins (Sierra Leone), Anna Tirat-Gefen (Ukraine), and host Kim Villamera (Philippines)
- Sept. 16, “Spend the Night,” headlined by Violet Gray with Andie Basto, Elani Nichelle, Ashley Pontius, Khairy Creek, Michael Furr, Bria Beddoe, hosted by Stacy Gay and Megan Graves, who created this pajama-themed comedy variety show.
- Sept. 17, “The MOTHER of All Comedy Shows,” an all-female lineup headlined by hosted by Paris Sashay with Shannon Parker, Gina Nicole Brown, and hosted by Stacy Axler.
General Admission tickets for individual shows are available online for $20/$25. VIP Tickets, which include reserved seating and special SPRUNG! goodies are available for $30. Beer, wine, and concessions will be available for purchase each night.
