Suspect Sought in Armed Robbery of Foot Locker

Montgomery County Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect caught on surveillance video during a September 9 armed robbery of the Foot Locker store at Ellsworth Place in downtown Silver Spring.

“At approximately 12:30 p.m. [on September 9], 3rd District officers responded to the Foot Locker for the report of an armed robbery,” MCPD said in a news release.

“The investigation determined that a male suspect entered the store and asked to try on a pair of sneakers. Upon trying them on, he stated that he wanted to purchase them. The employee then took the sneakers to the counter as the suspect continued to shop. The suspect picked out a shirt and approached the counter. The suspect appeared to attempt to use his phone to pay with a mobile app and then took cash out of his pocket. The suspect then grabbed a pair of scissors that were on the counter, walked behind the counter, and demanded that the employee get[s] out of his way. The employee complied with the suspect’s demands. The suspect then took the sneakers from the clerk, removed his shoes, and put on the new sneakers. Upon attempting to exit the store, the store manager confronted the suspect. The suspect then brandished the scissors and threatened her before fleeing the store.”

MCPD said that the suspect is described as a Black male, 25 to 30 years old. He is approximately 6 feet tall with a thin build. He was wearing a light-colored North Face hoodie, light-colored skinny jeans with paint stains, and braided locs.
