Fryer’s Roadside to Reopen This Fall with BBQ, Smoked Meats: Report

Fryer’s Roadside will reopen this fall with a retooled menu that will include smoked meats and other barbecue offerings from Money Muscle BBQ, according to a report from Eater D.C.

The popular fried chicken and soft-serve ice cream will remain on the menu.

All Set Restaurant & Bar and Money Muscle BBQ owners Chef Ed Reavis and Jennifer Meltzer announced last week that they purchased Fryer’s Roadside at 12830 New Hampshire Ave.

The restaurant was recently placed for sale with an asking price of $150,000, according to The MoCo Show.

“Chef Ed Reavis and Jennifer Meltzer, owners of All Set Restaurant & Bar and Money Muscle BBQ, are excited to announce that they have purchased Fryer’s Roadside at 12830 New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring, Md.,” the announcement reads. “The previous owners of Fryers, a roadside fried chicken and ice cream stand, recently announced that the one-year-old restaurant was available for sale. Effective Saturday, September 17, Reavis and Meltzer will assume ownership of Fryer’s and will close the existing space with plans to reopen later this fall. As fellow independent restaurant owners in Silver Spring, Reavis and Meltzer want to thank the previous owners, Steve Engelhardt and his partners, for their dedication to the community and neighborhood and assure loyal Fryer’s fans that they remain committed to serving great food to Silver Spring and Montgomery County at large. Follow All Set and Money Muscle BBQ on social media and online for updates and news on the new restaurant.”

Eater said that Fryer’s Roadside was an experiment by first-time chef Steve Engelhardt, a former bartender at District Chophouse and The Hamilton who took on a Popeye’s gig during the pandemic to practice his poultry skills. In spite of his novice experience, Washington Post food reporter Tim Carman praised Fryer’s Roadside’s “tasty” bone-in fried chicken and skin-on French fries.
