A $50,000 third-tier Powerball ticket was sold Monday at the Check Cash Depot on Piney Branch Rd. in Silver Spring, according to an announcement from the Maryland Lottery.
A record-shattering jackpot was awarded to a winning ticket sold in California during Monday night’s Powerball drawing, which was delayed until Tuesday morning. Nine prizes of at least $50,000 were awarded to tickets sold in Maryland, including a $1 million second-tier win in Catonsville.
After all sales were completed on Monday, the estimated annuity value of the jackpot had grown from $1.9 billion to $2.04 billion with a cash value of $997.6 million. This was the largest single jackpot prize in lottery history, surpassing the $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot shared by California, Florida, and Tennessee in 2016.
There was a delay in the drawing while a state that participates in Powerball completed the finalization of its sales results. Before drawings can take place, all 48 of those lotteries must finish processing their sales results and reporting their data. Maryland was not the source of the delay, the Maryland Lottery said in a press release.
Several other Maryland Lottery players won $50,000 third-tier prizes in the drawing, including:

- $50,000: sold Nov. 7 at White Plains Wine & Spirits, 4425 Crain Highway, White Plains
- $50,000: sold Nov. 5 at 7-Eleven #15036, 309 East Smallwood Drive, Waldorf
- $50,000: sold Nov. 6 at Weis Market #180, 9400 Scott Moore Way, Perry Hall
- $50,000: sold Nov. 5 at Maryland House, I-95, Aberdeen
- $50,000: sold Nov. 7 at Wawa #555, 668 South Salisbury Blvd., Salisbury
There are nine prize tiers in Powerball, ranging from $4 to the jackpot. According to the Maryland Lottery, 229,153 winning tickets were sold for the drawing on Nov 7.
