Opening Delayed for Black Lion Café in Downtown Silver Spring

The opening of Black Lion Café in downtown Silver Spring has been delayed, according to a message sent to the Source.

The Rockville-based coffee shop and roaster had originally planned for a November 1 opening, but has been postponed due to a delay in the café’s final inspection, a representative said. A new opening date has not been confirmed.

The café, owned by Emmanuel Manoles, specializes in coffees from three regions in Ethiopia—Sidama, Harrar, and Yirgacheffe, all roasted in small batches in-house, according to the café’s website.

In addition to coffee and assorted teas, the restaurant offers espresso drinks, smoothies, and frapps, along with vegan cakes and pastries. Patrons can also order coffee beans.

Black Lion Café is part of a slate of fall business openings in downtown Silver Spring, including The Breakfast Club, Citizens&Culture, and Firepan Korean BBQ, as well as the recently-opened Kusshi Sushi and Sashe’s Dominican Beauty Salon & ICU Beauty Bar.
