Police Investigating Piney Branch Rd. Fatal Collision

Detectives from the county’s Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a single-vehicle collision that occurred early Friday morning in the area of Piney Branch Rd. and Sligo Ave. in Silver Spring.

Officers from the 3rd District and Montgomery County Fire & Rescue responded at approximately 4:27 am on Friday to the scene for a single-vehicle collision.

MCPD said in a press release that the silver 2007 Scion TC with three occupants was traveling eastbound on Sligo Avenue when the incident occurred. As it crossed the median into the westbound lane, it overturned and crossed the intersection, hitting a pole on the east side of Piney Branch Rd.

The driver of the Scion, identified as 22-year-old Darlin Reyes Gomez of Laurel, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

There were two male adult passengers in the Scion who were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
