Nike Unite Store Now Expected to Open Feb. 16

The Nike Unite store in Downtown Silver Spring is now expected to open on Feb. 16, according to the latest update to the location’s Google listing.

The store, located at 910 Ellsworth Dr. in the Downtown Silver Spring development, was originally scheduled to open last November but was then delayed until 2023.

Hiring is currently underway for the location. “With all retail opportunities nationwide offering a starting wage of at least $15.00 per hour, Nike is looking for the next Part-Time Athlete (Sales Associate) to join our team and provide world-class service to the consumer,” the store’s job listing reads.

Interested candidates can apply online at Nike’s website.

We originally reported last year that Beaverton, Ore. -based Nike would be opening a Downtown Silver Spring outpost of the company’s Nike Unite store concept, which was announced in late 2020. “Nike Unite exists to serve and celebrate the people in each local community, and each store is designed to be a reflection of their heart and spirit,” the company said in an announcement. “Consumers are welcomed by an in-store community wall highlighting the store team and local partnerships, and design elements throughout the space also look to tell the story of the community. From local landmarks to hometown athletes, the design allows the local residents to feel represented in the space.”

The Downtown Silver Spring store, which was originally slated to open last November, is part of Nike’s plan to open 200 stores in the United States and Europe. Nike is also set to open stores in Bethesda and the District’s H Street Corridor; the company’s Georgetown store closed Friday and is set to move across the neighborhood, according to The Georgetown Metropolitan.
