Silver Spring Nonprofit Acquired by Levine Music

Artivate Inc., a Silver Spring-based arts organization, has been acquired by Levine Music, officials of the two organizations announced.

Artivate “through alliances with artists, arts organizations, museums, community-based groups, and service agencies, it has brought culturally diverse programs—in theater, dance, drawing, and singing—directly to DC-area schools and communities, including public libraries, schools, botanical gardens, museums, and theaters,” according to its website.

“This is an important next step for the arts in our community,” said Gregory Bruch, Artivate’s board president, said in a press release. “We thank all the Artivate staff, supporters, presenters, and artists for helping to build such a terrific legacy. We also thank the full Levine community for ensuring this impact extends to future generations.”

The move comes as the group is recovering from the impact of COVID-19, according to the release.

Artivate founded as Class Act Arts in 1995 by Silver Spring arts activist Busy Graham. It was originally the educational outreach arm of the Institute of Musical Traditions, a Takoma Park-based nonprofit that focuses on preserving and promoting American and international folk traditions.

Artivate is located on the second floor of 8455 Colesville Rd. while Levine occupies the second floor of the Silver Spring library at 900 Wayne Ave.
