CCI Health Services to Host Sunset Soirée August 9

Silver Spring-based CCI Health Services will host a Sunset Soirée benefit on August 9, as part of a series of four events throughout August and September.

The nonprofit hopes to engage the community in a variety of ways through these events, which will range from a family block party to an intimate foodie gathering.

During the warmer months, CCI spends a significant amount of time in the community. As a result of the organization’s efforts last year, 27 events were held in 11 cities across Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, including one in the rain following a hurricane.

“We have a running joke that if CCI planned the event, it’s going to rain,” said CCI PR and Outreach Specialist Carmen Frazier. “But rain or shine, it’s important for us to be out in the community, meeting people and letting them know we’re here to support them—especially those who have trouble accessing health care.”

During these events, CCI offers HIV and STI screenings, COVID and flu vaccines, as well as other services. In addition, the organization recognizes that it offers an opportunity to foster trust within the community they serve.

“It’s one thing to say we’re here to provide you with services. It’s another to show up and participate in what’s happening in the neighborhood,” said Chief Strategy Officer Jessica Wilson. “And that’s how we’re different. We live, work, and play in the cities where our 11 sites are located. We pride ourselves on hiring from within the community and getting to know our local civic and business partners.”

The Sunset Soirée is one of two events CCI will host during National Health Center Week.

Chefs Kevin Tien and Tim Ma of Chefs Stopping AAPI Hate, and Maryland-native Ari Augenbaum, executive chef of Soul Taco Restaurant and JewFro, will curate the intimate food experience. Additionally, award-winning bartender Thi Nguyen will serve drinks and pastries.

Taking place at CCI’s administrative headquarters at 8665 Georgia Ave. in downtown Silver Spring, the intimate event will raise awareness and funds for CCI Health Services and Chefs Stopping AAPI Hate.

Tickets are $250 each and can be purchased online.
