Maryland Lottery: $41K Ticket Sold at Corner Market

A winning lottery ticket worth $41,385 was sold at Corner Market in Silver Spring last month, according to the Maryland Lottery.

A 71-year-old plumber from Takoma Park, who has not been identified, had just picked out two scratch-off tickets at Corner Market when he discovered an extra $4 in his pocket. He added a cold drink and one Racetrax ticket to his purchase, according to a press release.

“I had just handed the guy the money for my scratch tickets when I reached for my car keys and felt the extra cash in my pocket,” he said. “I pulled it out, saw that it was four $1 bills, and added a Coke and a Racetrax ticket.”

A friend of the winner, who is an avid Racetrax player, recently won a large prize while playing the simulated horseracing game. “Racetrax was a little bit on my mind after talking to my friend. I guess that’s why I bought the ticket. I made sure it was a Superfecta bet, just like his was.”

The Takoma Park man said that he has been extremely busy lately, both professionally and personally, so it took him a few weeks to cash in his $41,385 winning quick-pick ticket from the July 25 race. “It was such a good feeling knowing that I had this coming. I am going to share my good luck with my family.”

Corner Market, located in the Rock Creek Shopping Center at 8309 Grubb Rd. in Silver Spring, produced the winning ticket, picking horses 6, 4, 11, and 7. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more, Corner Market’s owner receives a bonus of $413.85, equal to 1% of the prize.

To redeem winning tickets greater than $25,000, players must mail them or visit the Maryland Lottery headquarters at 1800 Washington Blvd., Suite 330 in Baltimore. Appointments must be scheduled in advance; walk-ins are not permitted.

Maryland Lottery encourages players to check their tickets by scanning them at any Lottery retailer or by using the Lottery’s mobile app. Winners of draw games and scratch-off games have 182 days from the date of the drawing to claim their prizes.
