$10,000 Reward Offered for Armed Carjacking, Strong-Arm Robbery Suspects

Major Crimes Division detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying suspects who committed an armed carjacking and strong-arm robbery in downtown Silver Spring.

The suspects were also involved in an attempted robbery in Takoma Park that turned into a shooting the same day, police say.

At approximately 2:14 a.m. on August 29, 3rd District officers responded to the 8060 block of 13th St. for a report of a robbery. Upon approaching the adult male victim on his bicycle, the suspect made threatening remarks and indicated he had a weapon, according to detectives. The victim gave the suspect his wallet with cash, and the suspect left on his bicycle southbound on Georgia Ave.

Shortly thereafter, at approximately 2:26 a.m., officers from the 3rd District responded to the 7-Eleven in the 7900 block of Georgia Ave. to investigate a recent carjacking. As the victim stood outside the 7-Eleven, the suspect approached him on his bicycle and pulled out a black handgun, demanding the keys to his silver Toyota Camry. When the victim handed the suspect his keys, the suspect drove away in the Camry toward the District, according to an MCPD press release.

The suspect is described as a Black male, approximately 14 to 16 years old, 5 feet, 4 inches to 5 feet, 6 inches tall, wearing all-black clothing, a black face mask, and white/black Nike Air Jordan 12 retro shoes.

During the investigation, detectives determined that the same suspect, along with three other suspects, had used the stolen Camry in another armed robbery that led to a shooting in Takoma Park (video below).

According to Fox 5, Takoma Park Police reported that the victim drove into the Sunoco gas station parking lot to the air pump around 11:12 p.m. Police said the victim noticed two masked suspects exiting the vehicle with guns drawn. Shots were fired after the victim produced a legally owned firearm. The suspects fled the area, and the victim was not seriously injured.
