The Wheaton Library and Community Recreation Center will host the 4th Great Montgomery County Bike Summit on Sunday, October 29, organized by the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA).
According to WABA Maryland organizer Seth Grimes, the free event will promote safe biking throughout Montgomery County. Policy-makers and advocates will participate in presentations and panel discussions, charting progress toward a network of trails and protected bike lanes and meeting Maryland’s Vision Zero goals.
The summit begins at 1:15 p.m. with a keynote address by Montgomery County Councilmember Natali Fani-González on Safe Streets for All. Four sessions follow:
- How Maryland Can Make Biking Safer and Easier, with senior State Highway Administration and Maryland DOT officials
- Building the Capital Trails Network
- A Bike Friendly Montgomery County, with Montgomery County Department of Transportation and Montgomery Planning officials
- Effective Advocacy, a panel that includes Dan Langenkamp, whose wife Sarah was crushed by a truck last year while bicycling on River Road
WABA’s Complete State Roads initiative will be launched during the Maryland segment, which is supported by funds from the Bega Memorial Fund for Bicycling Safety and the Langenkamp Family.
The summit will run until 5 p.m. More information and free registration can be found on WABA’s website.
