The county’s Department of Health and Human Services is seeking volunteers to assist with the upcoming annual Point-In-Time Street Count at various locations next week.
The count begins at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, and runs through 3 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25. Its purpose is to locate individuals who may be living on the streets, in vehicles, at campgrounds, under bridges, or in similar locations. The data collected is utilized at local, state, and federal levels to distribute resources for individuals and households in need of homelessness assistance.
Volunteers will receive training to fully prepare them to interact with people experiencing homelessness and conduct the survey.
Training sessions will be available in both Silver Spring and Rockville on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m.:
- In Silver Spring, the session will be held at the Silver Spring Civic Building at 1 Veterans Place in downtown Silver Spring.
- In Rockville, the session will take place at the Mid-County Dept. of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Building at 1301 Piccard Drive in Rockville.
First-time volunteers are encouraged to attend the in-person training, and light refreshments will be available.
All volunteers need to register in advance by Friday, Jan. 19. For any inquiries, please email [email protected].
