Outback Steakhouse currently plans to open its new location at Ellsworth Place in downtown Silver Spring this spring.
Trey Culpepper, Senior Vice President of GBT Realty, the owners of Ellsworth Place, mentioned in a recent virtual meeting last November regarding the mall’s residential development plans, that Outback was initially planned to open at the beginning of this year.
A representative for Bloomin’ Brands, Outback’s parent company, said to the Source this afternoon that the restaurant is now targeting a spring opening, citing the fluid nature of construction timelines. “We have not announced an open date since timelines often shift with construction. We are looking at late Q1/early Q2,” a Bloomin’ Brands representative said via email.
The new downtown Silver Spring location will be Outback’s third location in Montgomery County, joining the existing restaurants in Aspen Hill and Germantown. Hiring is currently underway for various positions, including managers, servers, line cooks, and bartenders. While a global brand, Outback Steakhouse has strong local ties through its founder, Chris T. Sullivan, who has roots in the area. Sullivan attended local schools in the 1960s and went on to establish the first Outback in 1988, ultimately overseeing the expansion of the chain to over 900 restaurants worldwide and the development of other hospitality-related businesses.
