Hagerstown Man Receives 10-Year Sentence for Carjacking Spree, Including Silver Spring Incident

22-year-old Carlos Guardado-Eagle from Hagerstown received a 10-year federal prison sentence this week after being found guilty of participating in a series of armed carjackings and attempted carjackings in 2022.

The sentencing was announced on Friday by the U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland Erek L. Barron, along with several law enforcement officials, police department chiefs, and state attorneys.

According to a press release, Guardado-Eagle and an accomplice committed four armed carjackings between May 15, 2022, and June 1, 2022. Additionally, on June 6, they attempted a fifth carjacking but were unsuccessful in obtaining the vehicle due to the victim’s refusal to relinquish the keys. In each incident, both individuals concealed their identities with masks and targeted BMW vehicles. After obtaining the BMW keys in three instances, they split up, with one driving the BMW and the other driving a separate vehicle.

One notable event occurred on May 15, 2022, when Guardado-Eagle and his accomplice engaged in an armed carjacking by rear-ending a 2014 BMW in District Heights. Following a similar pattern, they pointed guns at the victim, demanded the keys, and then fled with the vehicles.

Further incidents included armed carjackings on May 19, 2022, in Severn; May 26, 2022, in Silver Spring; and June 1, 2022, in Tysons Corner, Va. The final attempt on June 6, 2022, took place in a Baltimore parking garage where the victim resisted, leading to an assault before Guardado-Eagle and the accomplice fled.

Guardado-Eagle was apprehended later in June 2022 as a result of the law enforcement investigation. He was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release after serving his 10-year prison term.
