Chido’s Tex-Mex Grill Marks Territory in Downtown Silver Spring with Promising ‘Coming Soon’ Signage

“Coming Soon” signs have been placed at the upcoming location of Chido’s Tex-Mex Grill in Downtown Silver Spring.

The Laurel-based restaurant is set to occupy the former space of The Eleanor at 931 Ellsworth Drive, following the closure of the previous establishment last year. The bowling lanes and fixtures of The Eleanor were auctioned off in the fall after its shutdown.

Chido’s first opened its doors in Laurel back in 2016, followed by the launch of a second location in Owings Mills in 2018 before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the pandemic’s impact in 2020, the decision was made to not renew the lease for the Owings Mills location, leading to its closure.

The Laurel restaurant will mark its 8th anniversary this June, according to The MoCo Show.

General Manager Horacio Romero shared with Streetcar Suburbs News last year the challenges faced by Chido’s during the pandemic and the subsequent relocation to the current Laurel site chosen by owner Fidel Rincon.

“Originally, Chido’s Tex-Mex Grill opened in Owings Mills, however, the timing was just slightly pre-pandemic; the lease was up, numbers were down and rumors of some mysterious virus were spreading, Chido’s Tex-Mex Gill decided not to renew their lease,” General Manager Horacio Romero said last year. “After scouting various locations and the virus situation settling down, Fidel Rincon chose the present site [in Laurel].”

Known for its unique twists on classic Tex-Mex fare, Chido’s menu features weekend brunch offerings and a diverse beverage selection. The restaurant is expected to open in the coming months, alongside Roaming Rooster and Gold’s Gym.
