Greater Silver Spring Chamber Honors CCI Health Services for Community Impact

Healthcare nonprofit CCI Health Services has been awarded Nonprofit of the Year by the Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce for its ongoing community support, willingness to collaborate, and commitment to making Silver Spring a better place to live, work, and run a business.

CCI received the award on June 26 at the Chamber’s 2024 Awards & Installation event at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in downtown Silver Spring. The Nonprofit of the Year award is timely for the organization, which is expanding its efforts and is the largest Federally Qualified Health Center providing comprehensive health services in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.

In 2023, CCI provided care to over 68,000 patients and participants, most of whom live on low or no income and have inadequate or no insurance.

“It’s an honor to receive such a distinguished award from the Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce, a coalition that comprises some of the most passionate and inspiring business leaders in the area,” said CCI Chief Executive Officer and President Dr. Sonya Bruton. “A thriving community happens when committed individuals across sectors unite for the common good. We look forward to continuing our partnership with the GSSCC to realize the boundless potential of Silver Spring and create an optimal living experience for every resident.”

The nonprofit plans to launch its CCI Rx affordable pharmacy program in the coming months. The first pharmacy will open in Gaithersburg in the summer, followed by Greenbelt, with tentative plans for Silver Spring and Greenway in 2025. Additionally, the organization aims to open its Sexual and Gender Minorities health center this fall, which will be the first specialized gender-affirming care facility in Montgomery County.

Founded in 1972 as Community Clinic, Inc., CCI expanded to Silver Spring in 1982 and opened its new administrative headquarters and flagship health center in downtown Silver Spring in 2022. County officials honored the organization’s 50th anniversary last year.
