Construction at Punta Cana Tropical Grill is again on track and progressing toward opening in Montgomery Hills.
In September, we reported that construction on the Dominican quick-service restaurant, which is taking over the former Tropics Ice Cream & Jerk location at 9324 Georgia Ave., had stalled due to a Stop Work Order issued by the county’s Department of Permitting Services.
Tropics Ice Cream & Jerk permanently closed last year.
“As soon as I saw the post about it closing, I went for it! It’s a busy road, and I know people will stop here to try it out,” owner Margarita Rodriguez told The MoCo Show last December. “Silver Spring has a unique, diverse community with an appetite for Dominican dishes. I understand how hard it is to stop for food and get good food, so I came up with the idea to open a fast-food Dominican carryout.”
Although an opening timeline has not been announced, the restaurant is currently accepting applications for food servers and counter staff.
