The Fenton Street Market will return this fall in a new location with a broader community of vendors and additional live programming.
The market will be open on Ellsworth Drive between Fenton Street and Georgia Avenue on the second Sunday of the month beginning Sept. 10.
Two more markets will be open Oct. 8 and Nov. 12. Each market will be run from noon to 6 p.m.
“We’ve been looking for a new home for the market and are excited to be partnering with Downtown Silver Spring to host our amazing vendors on one of Silver Spring’s most vibrant streets,” said Elizabeth Baer, one of FSM’s owners.
Fenton Street Market is owned by local residents, whose aim is to maintain the market’s reputation as a high-quality and diverse marketplace, according to a press release. It is dedicated to promoting local and emerging artisans and service providers while expanding its offerings and testing new concepts.
“Stay tuned for more information on vendors and programming in the coming weeks,” Baer added.
While downtown Silver Spring is in the midst of a development boom, FSM provides a presence of locally made, handcrafted goods and services. FSM connects residents directly with the artisans, community organizations and service providers who live, work and create in their backyard. Market-goers can expect to find familiar and favorite vendors and meet new ones with unique products each month.
Since 2009, FSM has been a craft, culture and community market operating in downtown Silver Spring. FSM has featured more than 1,000 vendors, including artisans and craft-makers offering hand-made wares and imports, and hosted on-site demonstrations ranging from glass-blowing to culinary knife-sharpening and yoga classes.
FSM is currently in its third generation of leadership (Disclosure: Source of the Spring co-founder Mike Mowery is one of the market’s owners). Started in 2009 by local resident Hannah McCann on a vacant lot at the corner of Fenton Street and Silver Spring Avenue, FSM relocated to Veteran’s Plaza in 2010.
The market’s collective builds community by hosting musical performances by local and regional bands and creating a space for residents to gather. Fenton Street Market is more than a market—it showcases Silver Spring’s unique, diverse, and vibrant contributions to the Washington, D.C., region.
Under new management in 2015, FSM partnered with Taste the World in Fenton Village and held its Holidaze Market at the Fillmore, drawing over 1,000 market-goers.
