With area schools now in session, CREATE Arts Center in Silver Spring is once again offering parents a creative care alternative with “No School Day Camps” on days when schools are not open.
The camps for 6- to 14-year-olds are scheduled for more than 20 days on holidays such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Veterans Day, as well as teacher conference days, professional development days and others.
The camp schedule follows Montgomery County Public Schools and Washington D.C. Public Schools, along with several local private schools and a variety of charter schools. Parents can also request a date for a camp if a needed day is not on the schedule.
The camps run from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. with before care (8:30-9 a.m.) and after care (3-6 p.m.) available in the center at 816 Thayer Ave. in Silver Spring.
Attendees typically work on a variety of art projects including painting, collage, sculpture, drawing and others.
The organization also offers winter and spring break art camps.
The center is a “nonprofit visual arts organization that has been bringing the arts to Montgomery County for 30 years through art education and art therapy,” according to the organization’s website. CREATE was voted the top education/nonprofit group in the 2016 Best of Fenton Village competition.
