Two boutique fitness studios have signed leases for space in the Central residential community, the first two lessees in the property at 8455 Fenton St.
Pure Barre will open a 1,200-square-foot studio while Orangetheory Fitness will occupy more than 3,800 square feet. Both studios are expected to open in early 2018, according to a press release from developer Grosvenor Americas.
Pure Barre was founded by dancer, choreographer and fitness guru Carrie Rezabek Dorr in Birmingham, Mich. in 2001 and now has more than 375 studios across the country, including eight in Maryland. The workout uses a ballet barre to perform small, isometric movements for what the company describes as a full-body workout.
Orangetheory uses heart rate-based interval training in a 60-minute group workout. Studio equipment includes treadmills, rowing machines, suspension unit systems and free weights to be used in sessions for 10-25 people. There are currently three locations in Washington, D.C. and one in Potomac.
“Pure Barre and Orangetheory Fitness are two of the most popular fitness experiences in the country,” said Jon Carr, senior vice president of Grovesnor Americas said in the release, “and we are looking forward to our new partnership with these franchises which complement each other in support of health and wellness.”
Carmel McGuire is the owner of the Silver Spring Pure Barre franchise and Marc Johnson owns the Silver Spring franchise of Orangetheory Fitness.
Pre-leasing is currently underway for Central’s 243 apartments, with occupancy expected to begin this month.
