Scion Restaurant on East-West Highway and its sister outlet, Nainai’s Noodle & Dumpling Bar, have closed, according to a sign posted several days ago on Scion’s door.
It’s not clear if the closings are temporary or permanent. Calls to each restaurant’s phone number are sent to a message that the numbers are “temporarily disconnected.”
The original Scion, opened by sisters Joanne and Julie Liu in Dupont Circle in 2009, was closed down in August of last year. However, the owners posted a message to that effect on their website at the time. There is no such message on the website or the Scion Silver Spring Facebook page.
The Liu’s parents, Jenny and Henry Liu, also owned and operated Jenny’s at the Wharf in Washington, D.C., and closed that operation in June of 2018, saying they would transition to a kiosk location nearby. Again, a message was posted about this closing as well.
The sign at Scion gives an email address for inquiries. The Source has sent a request to the owners, but has not yet received a response. We will update this story if we receive more information.
