Council now looking for Planning Board applicants

The County Council is looking for applicants to fill a vacancy on the Montgomery County Planning Board.

The first term of Natali Fani-Gonzalez (D) will expire on June 14 and she has indicated that she will apply for reappointment.

Applications must be received no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28.

Board members serve a four-year term and are eligible to serve two terms. They are paid $30,000 per year and are expected to attend several meetings each week, including the regular Thursday weekly meeting, as well as spend time in preparatory work and other related activities.

The Planning Board, sitting as the Park Commission, also approves the annual Parks Department operating budget and Capital Improvements Program, as well as land acquisitions, park improvements and other plans.

Each member must be a resident and registered voter of Montgomery County when appointed. A Democrat, Republican, a voter who declines to affiliate with a party can fill this position, or a member of another party officially recognized by the Montgomery County Board of Elections, according to a council press release. No more than three members can come from the same political party.

In addition to Fani-Gonzalez, the current board includes one Democrat, two Republicans and one unaffiliated member.

This information will be made public. Interviews of candidates are conducted in public and are televised.

Each applicant will be sent a financial disclosure form that must be submitted. Only the selected applicant’s disclosure form will be made public.
