County Executive Marc Elrich responded yesterday to a report by the Office of Inspector General that inspectors with the Department of Permitting Services had received COVID hazard pay to which they were not entitled.
The County Council yesterday approved Executive Order 122-20 from County Executive Marc Elrich that places restrictions on the number of people who can gather at various types of events, as well as be served indoors at restaurants and retailers. “We have been watching the daily number of new cases go up for more than two weeks and it’s unfortunately time to roll back some of our reopening steps in order to decrease the spike we are seeing,” said Elrich.
Montgomery County Recreation has begun registering participants in winter virtual classes, the agency announced. Winter classes run from January to March 2021 and are designed to promote active, healthy lifestyles.
The county’s Commission on Veterans Affairs is looking for tributes to veterans to add to its virtual “Tribute to Montgomery County Veterans,” officials announced. The program is open to any county residents who have served in the military, whether in wartime or peacetime.
The county has announced the following holiday schedule for Veterans Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11. County offices and libraries, along with state offices and courts, will be closed, though the Alcohol Beverage Services stores will be open noon–7 p.m.
The county cancelled its Late-Night Alcohol Sales Program as of yesterday at 5 p.m., officials announced. The program was launched in October and allowed restaurants to apply for a permit to sell and serve alcohol after 10 p.m. if they had not been cited or closed during the previous 60 days.
The weather forecast for this weekend looks perfect for leaf raking, just in time for the county’s annual leaf collection to begin Monday, Nov. 9. This year, the county has modified the online collection schedule tools so that residents can find their planned collection date (weather permitting) by simply entering their street address.
County Executive Marc Elrich has introduced a revised Executive Order 122-20, COVID-19 Local Order that would roll back recent loosening of restrictions designed to lessen the spread of COVID-19. The revisions come in response to a recent spike locally and elsewhere in the number of COVID-19 cases. One of the principal changes reduces the allowed indoor capacity at shops and restaurants from 50% to 25%.
Incumbent Takoma Park Mayor Kate Stewart and all six current city council members are leading in races to keep their seats, according to preliminary results posted last night. Stewart was leading challenger Roger Schlegel by a vote of 2,912 to 1,561 with 18 write-in votes.
