Silver Spring Chamber Joins Effort to Oppose Tax on Digital Advertising Revenues

The Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce has joined a coalition of businesses and organizations to oppose any attempt to implement a tax on digital ad revenues in the 2021 Maryland General Assembly. “We opposed this last year in the General Assembly because we felt that, as they had said, it would be a tax not just on the people accepting advertising but also on small businesses,” said Jane Redicker, GSSCC president and CEO.

Guitar Center Plans to File for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

California-based Guitar Center plans to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to the company. The plan was revealed as part of a press release announcing a Restructuring Support Agreement with creditors that includes a new $165 million equity investment. The company operates about 300 stores across the country, including seven in the Washington, D.C. area.

County Police Arrest, Charge Domestic Violence Suspect with Multiple Offenses

County police officers responding to a report of possible domestic violence arrested Charles Evans of Easley Street and charged him with multiple offenses. The incident occurred at about 4:20 p.m. on Nov. 12 at an apartment building in the 800 block of Easley when a witness reported seeing a woman with a black eye who wanted to use a phone, and a man who appeared to be looking for her.

“Re-Imagining the Holidays” Art Installation Lights Up Tonight

While there won’t be a lighting ceremony/party on Ellsworth Drive, this year’s “Re-Imagining the Holidays” art installation will be lit up beginning tonight (Nov. 13) through mid-January. This year’s installation on Fountain Plaza is a collection of colorful plexiglass snowflakes hung inside and out on a framework that’s wrapped in blue garland, topped with a crystal burst. Colorful floodlights and blinking lights will illuminate the structure for shoppers and other visitors to enjoy.

Silver Spring Company Closes on $17 Million Funding Round

Truebill, a Silver Spring financial services company founded by three brothers who attended Montgomery Blair High School, today announced the company has closed on a $17 million Series 3 round of funding. The funding was led by Bessemer Venture Partners, with existing investors Eldridge Industries, Cota Capital, Firebolt Ventures, and Day One Ventures participating as well. This round brings the total amount the company has raised to $40 million.
