Archival Media Research Bootcamp at the World’s Best Facilities

March 25 @ 9:30 am - March 26 @ 1:30 pm

  • Join a 2-day course exploring the vast motion picture and stills collections of the National Archives in College and the Library of Congress

    Two Day In-Person Course:

Tuesday, March 25, 9:30am – 1:30pm (at National Archives College Park)

Wednesday, March 26, 9:30am – 1:30pm (at Library of Congress)

The National Archives at College Park and the Library of Congress on Capitol Hill are the richest and most accessible motion picture and stills collections on earth and they are at your fingertips, not via computer, but by visiting each facility in person as a researcher.

This 2-day course will bring you to these facilities, show you what is there, and have you go through the steps to view and, in most cases, walk away with materials.

This special opportunity will take place over a Tuesday and Wednesday because they are the quieter days at these facilities. The classes will begin with an introduction along with advice and descriptions of the collections. Then you will visit the research rooms, learn about the rules, equipment, and hints for locating materials. You will meet the staffs — the most important resource. Toward the end of each day you will have time to work on your own project with one-on-one guidance.

The first day, Tuesday, March 25, will take place at the National Archives in College Park and last from 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM. After 1:30 there will be an optional group lunch and one-on-one help until 5 PM. You will be responsible for your own transportation to and from.

The second day, Wednesday, March 26, will take place at the Library of Congress and last from 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM. After 1:30 there will be an optional group lunch and one-on-one help until 5 PM. You will be responsible for your own transportation to and from.

It is strongly recommended that you attend both sessions for the maximum benefit. However, you can still register for a single day session. If you register for both sessions together, you will receive a discount.
