The County Council has announced it is looking for applicants to replace outgoing Planning Board member Marye Wells-Harley, who is wrapping up her second term and thus not eligible for reappointment.

Wells-Harley’s term ends June 14. Applications to fill the position are due no later than April 12 at 5 p.m.

Board members are paid $30,000 per year for a four-year term and are expected to attend several meetings each week, including the regular Thursday weekly meeting, as well as spend time in preparatory work and other related activities.

Each member must be a resident and registered voter of Montgomery County when appointed. A Democrat, Republican, a voter who declines to affiliate with a party can fill this position, or a member of another party officially recognized by the Montgomery County Board of Elections, according to a council press release. No more than three members can come from the same political party; two Democrats will remain on the board after Wells-Harley’s term is up.

From the release: “Letters of application expressing interest, including a résumé listing professional and civic experience, political party affiliation, home and office telephone numbers and an email address, should be addressed to: Council President Roger Berliner, County Council Office, Stella B. Werner Council Office Building, 100 Maryland Avenue, Rockville, Maryland 20850. Applications can also be submitted via email to [email protected].” This information will be made public.

Each applicant will be sent a financial disclosure form that must be submitted. Only the selected applicant’s disclosure form will be made public.
