This Friday will be the last day that patrons can request a hold on books to be picked up at the Long Branch Library as staff prepares to shut the building for a refurbishment project.
The library, located at 8800 Garland Ave., will close for six to nine months. The planned work will include improvement to the roof, windows, and doors, replacement of carpet, furniture, finishes and lighting.
Other work will bring the building into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
“Physical construction for the refresh project at Long Branch will begin in April; we are closing ahead of the construction start date to complete the internal reorganization of collections and shelving,” said the county’s library system director Anita Vassallo in a press release.
Holds must be placed online or in person by 6 p.m. on Feb. 28 and picked up by Saturday, March 14. The branch will close as of Sunday, March 15. The book drop for returns will be available until April 3.
The library is open from 10 a.m.–8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 1–8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1–5 p.m. on Sunday.
The closest county library branches to Long Branch are in Silver Spring, Wheaton, and White Oak. In addition, the City of Takoma Park has a library at 101 Philadelphia Ave.
