Second Parkway Section Closed Weekends During COVID-19 Emergency

Montgomery Parks announced that a second section of Sligo Creek Parkway would be closed to traffic on weekends, beginning today (April 10) during the COVID-19 emergency.

The closure, in effect from 9 a.m. Fridays to 6 p.m. Sunday, will allow additional space for walkers, runners and bicyclists, said Mike Riley, director of Montgomery Parks, in the announcement.

“Overall, people are driving much less during the COVID-19 crisis, so we believe opening the parkway to people is a good way to help them get outside to exercise and relieve stress during this difficult times,” he said.

The parkway already had been closed on weekends from Piney Branch Avenue to Maple Avenue, and Maple to Old Carroll Avenue.

The second section covers 1.5 miles and runs from University Boulevard in the north to Dennis Avenue, and Dennis to Forest Glen Road.

Vehicles still will be able to cross the parkway at the intersections of Dennis and Maple avenues.
