Beginning today, holders of a Montgomery County library card can stream movies for no charge from Kanopy, an on-demand film streaming service, according to a press release.

The Kanopy app is available for iOS, Android, AppleTV, Chromecast or Roku, and is compatible with any computer, television, mobile device or platform.

The service offers films such as “award-winning documentaries, rare and hard-to-find titles, film-festival favorites, indie and classic films, and world cinema with collections from Kino Lorber, Music Box Films, Samuel Goldwyn, The Orchard, The Great Courses, PBS and thousands of independent filmmakers,” the release said.

Library cardholders can sign up online and start streaming films immediately.

Residents can apply for a card in person at any branch (with photo ID and proof of residence) or online.
