Montgomery County will move to Phase 2 of its planned reopening at 5 p.m. Friday, June 19, County Executive Marc Elrich announced.
“Phase 2 allows additional businesses and activities to start and/or increase modified operations under specified guidelines,” according to the press release.
However, certain businesses and services will remain shuttered under this phase, including:
- Concerts and theaters
- Senior centers
- Libraries, and
- Recreation facilities.
Major openings of facilities and services that had been closed, or will be allowed significant changes in operations, include:
- Gyms, fitness centers, and other indoor physical activities, open with requirements
- Houses of worship, limited indoor and outdoor services with requirements
- Indoor and outdoor gatherings, limited to a maximum of 50, or one person/family unit per 200 sq. ft., whichever is lower
- Indoor and outdoor pools (public and private), open with capacity restrictions
- Office spaces and multitenant commercial buildings, limited use for nonessential personnel with requirements
- Playgrounds open with requirements
- Restaurants, limited indoor dining with up to 50 percent capacity maximum indoors, if social distancing can be maintained, and
- Retail limited in-store, one patron per 200 sq. ft. of sales space
The reopening is spelled out in Executive Order 082-20, Covid-19 Local Order – Phase 2.
The County Council plans to hold a virtual public hearing and vote on the order this morning, according to a press release. If the council approves the order, they will also approve it as a Board of Health Regulation (sitting as the Board of Health).
