UPDATE: A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued until 8PM.
A line of intense thunderstorms will push through the area this afternoon, bringing the possibility of strong to severe thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.
In a tweet posted by the NWS office in Sterling, Virginia, the office forecasted: “Intense thunderstorms will likely develop this afternoon into this evening. Main threats: flash flooding and locally damaging wind gusts.”
The timing of the storms’ arrival should make for a slow, soggy evening commute. Flash flooding is also possible.
