Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center will reopen to the public on Thursday, Aug. 6 for people interested in adopting a rescue animal.
The reopening marks the shelter’s participation in the annual “Clear the Shelters” adoption month, sponsored by NBC/Telemundo.
During August, MCASAC’s adoption fees, which vary by species of pet, age and other factors (up to $150), will be reduced by 50%.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, people have shown great concern for the homeless pets of MCASAC,” said Deputy Executive Director Lex Lepiarz in a press release. “We’ve sent more animals into foster care than ever before and continue to admit animals into our facility. We hope that the community continues to provide support, in the form of adoptions, once we reopen on August 6.”
Residents interested in adopting a pet will be able to visit the shelter by appointment only. Masks and social distancing will be required as well. Adoptable pets can be reviewed on the MCASAC website.
MCASAC is located at 7315 Muncaster Mill Rd. in Derwood. The shelter is open to the public during the following hours:
- Monday and Tuesday: Noon–7 p.m.
- Wednesday: Closed
- Thursday and Friday: Noon–7 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday: Noon–5 p.m.
