County Executive Ike Leggett is looking for applicants to fill positions on three Silver Spring-area advisory committees.
Leggett is looking to fill five vacancies on the Silver Spring Citizens Advisory Board, nine positions on the Transportation District Management Advisory Committee, and four openings on the Urban District Advisory Committee.
“The SSCAB advises the Silver Spring Regional Area Director on needs and priorities such as economic development, transportation, housing, education, human services, and redevelopment,” according to the announcement distributed yesterday.
The group also acts as liaison between local communities and the county government. It is made up of 18 residents or business people who must live or work within the Regional Service Center boundaries (which are the same as the Source’s coverage area).
The SSCAB is composed of 18 residents and/or businesspersons of communities in the Silver Spring/Takoma Park area. The county is particularly interested in increasing representation from the east side of the regional area, Long Branch residents and renters.
The TMDAC has openings for for three large business (50 or more employees) and three small business (few than 50 employee) representatives in the Silver Spring Central Business District.
The county also will appoint residents from certain neighborhoods in the area (see map), who are nominated by the CAB.
The committee “monitors employer traffic mitigation plans, proposes guidelines for lessening traffic, reviews traffic patterns and makes recommendations on commuting, parking and other related matters,” said the announcement.
There are vacancies on the UDAC for three representatives of optional method developers (a certain type of development in downtown Silver Spring) and one small business.
The 11-member group provides information and advice to the county government and the director of the Silver Spring Regional Area about promotions, maintenance, service levels, and budgets for the Silver Spring Urban District.
Leggett’s appointments are generally subject to confirmation by the County Council. Members of county boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time and must complete training on the Maryland Open Meetings Act and basic parliamentary procedure. They are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended.
The application for these positions is online. If a resident is interested in one of the CAB-nominated posts on the TMDAC, they must send an email with a résumé and an expression of interest, along with the area they would represent, to Reemberto Rodriguez, director of the Silver Spring Regional Area.
The deadline for applications is Monday, Aug. 13.
