Due to a member’s resignation, the County Council is looking for applicants to complete a partial term on the Public Election Fund Committee, according to a press release.
The committee is responsible for recommending to the council the necessary funds to implement the county’s public campaign finance system. In addition, the committee recommends an annual appropriation for the following fiscal year for the Public Election Fund.
The fund, used for the first time in the 2018 election cycle, provided candidates for council or county executive with matching funds for small-dollar contributions of $150 or less. In 2021, that amount was raised to $250.
The term the council is looking to fill expires on April 30, 2023. A Democrat, a Republican, a voter who is unaffiliated with a party, or a voter who is a member of another party officially recognized by the Board of Elections can hold the position; no more than three of the seven members can be from the same party.
The committee generally meets once a quarter at 7 p.m.; members are not compensated for their service, but may be reimbursed for travel and dependent care expenses.
Letters of application expressing interest, including a résumé (no more than four pages long) listing professional and civic experience, should be emailed to Council President Tom Hucker at [email protected] or mailed to County Council Office, Stella B. Werner Council Office Building, 100 Maryland Avenue, Rockville, Maryland 20850.
Applications are due no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10. The council will select applicants to interview and documents from those chosen will be made part of the public record.
