Library System Launches Program of Automatic Renewals

Beginning today (March 22), the county’s library system will launch a program of automatically renewing certain materials borrowed by library users up to three times, officials announced.

An exception will be interlibrary loan materials borrowed through Marina, which can only be renewed twice, according to the announcement.

Some materials will not be eligible at all for automatic renewal, including:

  • Express books (bestsellers identified by a red Baker & Taylor or “B&T” spine label)
  • Go! kits
  • Mobile hotspots
  • Online Computer Library Center interlibrary loan items
  • eBooks
  • e-Audiobooks
  • Library of Things instruments, and
  • Materials that have had a “hold” placed on them by other customers.

All eligible materials will be renewed three days before the due date and a new due date will be calculated from the original due date. Customers will receive a notice of the renewal by email.

In addition, customers will receive notice of borrowed items that are not eligible for automatic renewal to remind them to return the material to the nearest branch.
