Commissioner Natali Fani-González has resigned her position with the county’s Planning Board and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, effective Aug. 31.
Earlier this year, Fani-González announced plans to run for County Council representing District 4. Incumbent Councilmember Nancy Navarro is term limited and cannot run for reelection in the district.
The County Council first appointed Fani-González to the Planning Board in 2014 and she was reappointed to a second term in 2018. She currently serves as vice chair, a position she was named in in May 2019.
“Natali has done a tremendous job over the past seven years in engaging our communities to be active participants in planning and landing use decisions,” Planning Board Chair Casey Anderson said in a press release. “Her passion for Montgomery County will be missed on the Planning Board and we wish her well in her future endeavors.”
In a resignation letter sent to the County Council, Commissioner Fani-González said, “July 29 was my last Planning Board session. I would like to thank you for giving me the extraordinary honor to serve the county I love.”
Fani-González pointed to her efforts in the areas of affordable housing, reliable transit, safe streets and parks, among others, as particular passions while on the board.
The council will undertake a search to fill the vacant seat, the term of which will expire on May 2022.
